Your central hub for building resilient and secure warfighting capabilities.
Our primary mission is to ensure our naval systems achieve cybersecurity compliance. The Center of Excellence builds expertise across all the functions required to reach this target, including systems engineering, software engineering, model-based engineering, and data science. We are currently piloting a “Cyber Ready” approach to generate objective evidence for the RMF process, which helps improve our continuous monitoring and ensures our systems are consistently secure.
“We are shifting the paradigm from ‘compliance-focused’ to ‘readiness-focused’ cybersecurity. Cyber Ready is the vehicle for that change.”
— Bruce Reichard
To institutionalize a “Cyber Ready” culture that proactively integrates cybersecurity into the design, development, and delivery of warfighting capabilities, ensuring resilient and secure systems from day one.
A structured, multi-phase approach to building cybersecurity into our systems from the ground up.
Define the system’s mission, operational environment, and initial security requirements.
Develop the system architecture and technical specifications using MBSE principles.
Implement layered security controls and countermeasures based on the technical design.
Plan for the system’s deployment, operations, and maintenance in its intended environment.
Conduct automated security assessments and generate Body of Evidence (BOE) documentation.
Implement ongoing security monitoring and risk management post-deployment.
Tracking our progress toward a more Cyber Ready enterprise. Data is updated quarterly.
Our leadership team is dedicated to driving the Cyber Ready mission forward.
Review the latest updates on our initiatives, pilot programs, and strategic goals as required by DON CIO.
Compliance is about meeting a checklist of security controls (the “what”). Readiness is the demonstrated ability of a system to withstand and operate through cyber attacks (the “so what”). Cyber Ready focuses on achieving readiness, which inherently satisfies compliance.
