Fixing the leaky pipeline for women in STEM

G2 Ops CEO Tracy Gregorio explains why women are leaving the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) workforce and how they can develop their skills in a challenging field.

 

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA, December 20, 2022 – While girls are increasingly showing interest in computer science and STEM fields, positions are going unfilled while the job market grows. One of the primary reasons is the lack of understanding of girls’ abilities in math and science by teachers and parents. There are a number of ways women can succeed in STEM fields with the right perspective. Women should choose STEM careers that actually interest them and will energize them to work hard; be bold despite a lack of role models in many industries; and make specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals. They should also develop emotional intelligence, be curious about how they can contribute innovative ideas, develop confidence in themselves, take credit for their contributions, and continuously learn about the ever-changing environment of STEM.
