Virginia Beach, VA – At the beginning of this year, G2 Ops embarked on an innovative project using Microsoft HoloLens, the first self-contained, holographic computer. The HoloLens enables our employees to engage with digital content and interact with holograms in our offices. Three teams were each given a HoloLens and the open-ended task of designing a complement to the services G2 Ops currently offers and to advance our systems engineering capabilities in the augmented reality space. To promote the team-building experience and coast-to-coast virtual collaboration, teams consist of a mix of employees from each of our locations. Our more experienced and veteran engineers serve as team consultants, providing subject area expertise, assistance, and guidance to teams as they build their prototypes. Project Leaders for this RPC are Chief Data Strategist Corren McCoy, Systems Engineer Sunil Naidu, and Senior Cybersecurity Engineer Dean Smith.
Last month, the groups presented the first round of their ideas, including a budget and timeline. After hearing their presentations, McCoy commented, “It’s exciting to see not only the high-level of creativity planned for each prototype, but inspiring to know that innovators are embracing roles they might not normally assume, such as Project Manager, Technical Director, or Subject Matter Expert. The lessons learned and metrics we collect along the way will be invaluable as G2 Ops works to maintain a competitive advantage. It’s also just fun!” Chief Operating Officer Bob Gregorio added, “The RPC gives our engineers the opportunity to practice their craft and use the investment made in their engineering degrees. With three offices and employees in five states, this challenge removes geographical boundaries.
