G2 Ops proudly welcomed John Tyreman as Senior Vice President of Systems Engineering in March 2017. John has an Electrical Engineering degree from Virginia Tech and came to us from Lockheed Martin (LM), where he was Senior Engineering Principle for the Mission and Unmanned Systems market segment. Some of his favorite projects while at LM included the integration of Acoustic Rapid Capability Insertion (ARCI) Sonar, BYG-1 Combat, and Architecture subsystems into the USS Virginia; the replacement of the US Navy submarine complex mirror and lens periscope systems with a “Photonics Mast” – a set of cameras, fiber optics, and image processors; the development of a Model-Based Systems Engineering model (MBSE) for retrieval of the Remote Multi Mission Vehicle, an unmanned semi-submersible that searches for mines on the ocean floor; and working on the replacement of the Australian SEA-1000 submarine and AIR-6500 command infrastructure. He and his team received the DoD Architecture Excellence Award for their MBSE work on the Submarine Warfare Federated Tactical System (SWFTS). When asked about his hopes and goals for G2 Ops, John said, “I believe that we can truly transform the way the human R&D enterprise operates… that is, the people and money that develop new systems, like iPhones, missiles, drones, and prosthetics. We will be able to do so with much more efficiency, accuracy, and reliability.” We’re excited to have John on the G2 Ops team!
